DAWANG x GENTLE ORIENTAL

2022 Lunar New Year Collaboration

DAWANG (@dawangnewyork)’s Lunar New Year collection is based on the following concept:

It’s the year of the tiger, and based on Chinese tradition of the Five Elements (五行 wu xing), 2022 is the year of the Water Tiger. The motif illustrated by Gabrielle Widjaja

(@gentle.oriental) was inspired from the story of Wu Song, a character from the Water Margin (one of the four most well-known novels in China). Wu Song is fierce, for sure

— known for his role in the classic story Outlaws of the Marsh, his tale started with him downing 15 bowls of liquor (referencing the jugs of jiǔ 酒 (liquor) in the design) and

killing a tiger in the forest with his bare hands.

The photoshoot was inspired by this concept, and so we had shot at a Szechuan restaurant, Blue Willow (@bluewillownyc), that had an apothecary bar.
